Painting Reel Seats/Removing Hoods

I'd like to try painting a few reel seats (Fuji DPS). Is there a way to remove the front hood from the reel seat? How is it affixed to the graphite tube?

Thanks

I`ve had no luck removing them.I believe they are glued on or molded on.I just tape it off and trim the ends with an Exacto blade.

you should spray an adhesion promoter on it before you paint it

Probably depends on the seat. The Fuji DPSH I powder coated, once it was warm I noticed I could get the front shoe off by smacking it downward. Basically I just gripped it by the hood and banged the opposite threaded end on a particle board benchtop. Popped right off, no problem. Snaps right back up smartly as well.

I see no problem coating it in place tho, as it is supposed to be fized anyway..

The part with the rotating nut attached to the rear hood? You really should separate the two pieces and mask off the joint where they connect. They snap together. Thread the nut on to the threaded part, in reverse with the shoe sticking out, and then give the shoe a good tug. They pop apart fairly easily.

There is enough slop in the threads that even several powder coat passes caused no problem with the threads working smoothly. But I only coated the threads on the reel seat, not inside the nut. If I'd done the inside of the nut too, it probably would have been too much.

Do you use the same powder paint that is used to paint jigs and spinnerbaits ?
What about durability of the paint on the reel seat ?

Thanks,
Pierre
