Sulky diameter

I had bought some metallic Sulky thread for a project but am eyeing it now for the outside layer of a tiger wrap for my wife's new rod. Can anyone tell me if it has a close enough diameter to size A Gudebrod to develop a proper moire. It appears to be slightly finer - and if so does anyone have a prediction or experience with what the results would be? The A Gudebrod would be the sacrificial thread... Thanks for any answers - don't want to take the time to reinvent the wheel if someone else has already checked it out. Chuck Ungs Re: Sulky diameter

I've been doing a lot of playing with tiger's, Chuck, and have tried just what you are looking to do. It works pretty good. With Sulky on top, spaced with A, you get a bit more of the underwrap showing so a lot of contrast between the top and bottom layers really pays off here. These wraps are pretty unpredictable in the first place, so do a test wrap on something to see if you'll like it.
On doing a test wrap, this is a perfect time to try all sorts of combinations of threads and colors before finishing. You'll have the finish mixed, might as well make good use of it covering a lot of stuff so spend a few hours making lots of different tigers, taking good notes on each one. It'll pay off in the end. During one of my test runs, I found that using black and HT rainbow as a base, with black as an overwrap, really turned my crank. Very subdued, with hints of silver, gold and teal showing up in a primary black wrap. I usually like a lot of color and flash, but this was a beautiful effect in my eyes. I'm really loving tigers. On every one it is like opening a Xmas present. Many thanks again to Scott and Bill for sharing!! Re: Sulky diameter

Thanks for the thoughts Mick - I was also eyeing those multi-colored sulky metalics for the same type of idea - only I was wondering about it as the outside layer even... but I digress. I am hoping somebody has already done something similar - have too much other stuff eating spare time in the warm weather to do much experimentation... am currently thinking about HT black and silver as the underwrap and sulky purple over the top... not sure how it will go - but those are my current thoughts anyway... we'll see if anyone gets back to me tomorrow - otherwise I may just have to try it out... but the short cut works for me if someone else has tired a similar combo... and yes - I am so thankful that the two guys wrote those two articles for Tom - I won't use it alot but a special project here and there will be fun I think...
