Sailfish Trolling Blank suggestions

Hi all,

Into a Saltwater project that is a bit out of my normal build mode so I could use some blank suggestions.

Custom Requirements are:

Uses 20 lb line.
Fishes in Panama/Guatamala for sails up to 150lbs on 20 lb line.
Needs a light tip to cushion the light line, but retain enough backbone to play fish near the boat.
Needs to be fit with a removable unibutt

Thanks in advance for blank suggestions and other advice for these rods.

Terry

Hello Terry
Try the Batsons Rainshadow Live bait blanks. The CRLB70XL is rated 10-25LB it has a Light fiberglass tip and has carbon fibre mid and butt section which give it great lifting power. I like a longer rod for light game that spend most of the time (jumping) on the surface. You will have to shim the butt of the blank after you cut it down to fit a uni butt. I hope that helps regards
Simon

Along with the Batson, look at Gator Glass T70L, 15-30 Blank. It is a bit on the heavy side in terms of weight compared to the Batson, but if mostly used for trolling sitting a rod holder, that will not matter much. The tip is about as soft as they come and from what the good guys at mudhole told me, they are built to fit the unibutts. I recently built a rod on this blank that is rated 15-30#, and while 15# line will fit the blank, I believe the overall rod would have no problem handling up to 40# tackle.

Take a look at both along with what the other guys recommend here and you pretty much cannot go wrong.

Thanks guys,

He also wants the finished length to be no more than 6'6". Can either of these be safely cut down to fit the unibutt to meet the length needs? He also prefers composite to 100% glass.

Thanks again. Keep them coming.

Terry

I have used both the Batson and the Gator glass for this exact usage, although I normally prefer a 7 foot rod, but for this usage in a real quality rod I would have to go with the Seeker CJB65F or the CJB65. It definately depends on what price range you are trying to accomplish. All three rods will function very well.

RT6320 comes in Black or White at 63" fits the BUB1 and the BUB1 comes in Short at 17" or regular at 19" should come out at the perfect length.

Look at the seeker BT-20. It has all of the characteristics that you are looking for! Trim off the butt to your required length.
