Its about 7' Wright Mcgill Combo fly spin The blank is Yellow/Bamboo color and the wraps are brownish olive ...and looks to be a size b Any Idea what thread this is Also the finish on the threads looks like it might have been Varnish am I right on that??? Any help is appreciated Thanks Skip Re: Trying to match thread on a glass rod

It may be Grodbrod 1892 Olive Green and the finish is probably spar varnish. It will contribute a little in the brown hue. Best to compare colors by cutting the wrap off and looking at the bottom of the thread for a true thread color. Re: Trying to match thread on a glass rod

You could consider rewrapping all the guides. Definite color match that way. Re: Trying to match thread on a glass rod

When you remove the first guide, note the color of the thread on the underside - that side won't have faded or been changed by the varnish. If you rewrap the entire rod, go with that color. If only doing a guide or two, then you'll have to try to adapt something to match the faded or yellowed that the original has taken on over the years.

it may have been a dark brown and the varnish has changed to olive. i just stripped a wright and mcgill champion glass with the ugliest olive you ever saw. underneath the thread was dark brown. it had been changed by changes in the color of the varnish. i think it wil be hard to match the "olive". i would re wrap all the guides and wraps. those ferrules are probably nickle silver and will clean up and polish up nicely. Thanks Fellas Larry you hit it right on the head That Olive is about as ugly as it gets
I just talked to the owner of the rod and I will re wrap the whole rod with dark brown and polish it up a bit Thanks again Skip Re: Trying to match thread on a glass rod

As an aside, when you polish it up i would avoid polishing the male ferrules. it might make them loose. the difference between good fit and too loose is a hairs breath with metal ferrules. it is ok to polish the non slide part and the outside of the female. just clean the inside of the females
with some denatured alcohol and a cue tip. Re: Trying to match thread on a glass rod
