Does anyone know the rayon thread sizes that would correspond to Nylon sizes 00, A, and D?
Thanks, Bob Bob Re: Using Rayon Thread for Butt Wraps an Guide Wraps

#40 is just a little smaller than A. If you do asearch (above in the red bar), type in rayon and select ALL DATES, you will get a ton of opinions/reasons NOT to use rayon. If you are going to use any seweng thread, I would strongly recomment that you use a polyestor. Their are a lot of them available that are very good, again, I would recommend that CP be used with any sewing thread, due to the probable presence of a coating (silicone) to make the thread work better in sewing machines. Madeira poyneon is a VERY popular thread among builders and is even availble from some of the vendors on the left (@#$%&, Mudhole and probably others) Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Rayon is generally not colorfast, and regrades over time. Embroidery folk like it because it is pretty, and some keep it in the frig to edxtend its life. Not really a thread for outdoor usage or strength
If you are going to move off nylon, look to polyester. It is better for UV exposure, chemical resistance, and abrasion than nylon. The old govt measurement system, like A, B, D is rarely used now. Some charts at the thread exchange, for example [www.thethreadexchange.com] , can help you narrow your choices. Threads are mostly designated by weight now, not diameter. For example what is called a B in poly is usually slightly thinner than a B in nylon. You also get variation in thicknesses between manufacturers of what is supposedly the same size. That's because the sizes are really ranges. Something called a commercial 69 can really be anything from a 47 thru 69. Mostly I am using bonded poly 46 and 69, which is approx B and D And any which way you go, plan on using CP until you have proven to yourself that the threads aren't coated with something that can mess with finishes.
