One more thing you can do with Permagloss!

While washing my 1999 Suburban the other day I noticed how much the headlight and turn signal lenses had faded, and were starting to yellow. This has bothered me for awhile, but had really gotten bad in the last few months. The lenses are some sort of acrylic or plastic composite and really looked like crap..........so out came the gray scotchbrite pad, and after a little rubbing and a good wipe with alcohol, I applied two coats of Permagloss.

Presto! They look almost new! The clarity came right back and 99% of the yellowing dissappeared. I don't know how long this will last in 65 mph conditions, but it beats buying four new lenses. My only regret is that I didn't get any before and after pictures.

I'm intrested in hearing some other creative uses for this outstanding product.

Permagloss is extremely hard and it won't be hurt from driving at 65 mph (unless you hit something). But I'd caution others if trying to replicate this feat because PG has a pretty hot solvent and not all plastics can withstand it. Test first.

....not to mention the likelihood of different refraction with headlights and not being DOT or NTSB approved (and possible legality/liability issues)

Different refraction??? I had no refraction! The lenses were so faded they were almost white. Now they're clear again. Guess I'll keep my Permagloss suggestions to myself in the future.

Relax, Bruce. Any idea will attract some naysayers. Any GOOD idea will guarantee a multitude. Such is the internet.

I've got a bottle of PG just sitting in the refer and an old VW that is going to get your treatment, as the turn signal lenses are no longer available at any price.

Thanks for the info. Super value to me.

Your welcome Tim. I hope it works as well for you as it did for me. Instead of spending $200.00 for replacement lenses, it cost about $4.00 worth of finish.
