Hi all.
I am not a rod-builder (yet) but am definitely interested in the future. I was wondering if someone could explain how different modulus numbers affect a rod. For example, some Dan Craft blanks are 57 million and some are 60 million. Thanks in advance.... Re: Modulus question

The higher the modulus, the less material you need to use in order to attain the same stiffness as with a lower modulus fiber. Therefore, you can build the same rod, lighter.
But that's a simplification. Blank diameter and wall thickness vary depending on the design of the blank. This means that having a rod made from a higher modulus fiber is not always going to be lighter than one built from a lower modulus material. For the time being, let's look at modulus in a broader perspective - Most fiberglass has a higher modulus than bamboo and graphite has a higher modulus than fiberglass. You probably know how each of these performs against the other (in general) and can see the difference that modulus can make. Apply that same principle to different graphite fiber modulus and you'll have some idea of the difference it can make. ......... Re: Modulus question

Read this thread through and a few more doors may open to get you hooked into rodbuilding -

...........or turn him away from rodbuilding. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
