I think you could use just cork rings and then sand/cut them to look like this, but the foregrip, is there a pre-formed grip that you could use to make this with less work and nicer looks than the cork rings? I like these grips and have a 6' ML spinning rod that I think I will rebuild like this. Would you just use a 7' straight rear grip then cut it down and sand it, and then use the cut off portion and a rubberized cap to make the butt? I think this would work. Somebody tell me if I'm crazy.

The method you describe would certainly work, and is a little faster and easier than gluing up and shaping rings. You have the dimensions correct. These are 5" grips with 2.5" butts. In RodMaker Magazine (Volume 10, Issue 1), there is an article that describes a great improvement on this grip. I read the article after building these rods, and will try this method in the future.
Here's another excellent version of the TN grip: [www.rodbuilding.org] Good luck! Re: what would be the best way to make these grips?

As long as you don't run into any hidden filler, voids, or other hidden gremlins below the surface, should work fine. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
