Good evening to you all and morning to those on the East Coast.
I put up a post about a year and a half ago asking about a particular skipping rod but didn't get much in return. I have searched the archives and not come up with much there either. I am looking for a skipping rod (spinning) to use around docs. I am not set on line choice as of yet nor a particular blank company. I fish from a bass boat and would like something no longer than 6'6". I am open to what ever suggestions that you guys have for me. Oh, before I forget I will be mainly using smaller baits for this ie... smallie beavers, tubes, grubs, 4" senko's and Ika's. Thanks for the help gents Tom Kaufmann GySgt USMC Re: skipping rod

St Croix - 3S59MXF, 3S63MXF, 3C62MXF, 4S510MXF, 5S63MXF.
They ALL will work very well for what you want. The 4S510MXF is my favorite though - light, crisp and durable (IPC and ART). BTW, the 3C62MXF will not have a clue, or complaint, if you build it as a spinning rod ... St Croix doesn't mind either, you will NOT void the warranty. I would suggest that you build these with the lightest guides, grips, etc. that you can afford - you don't want to modify the beautiful action of these blanks. Re: skipping rod

Thomas;
I built a skipping rod on a Batson ISB 841 that is awesome for this. I can be 50 to 70 ft. out from a dock and skip it 40-50 ft. up under a dock, many times all the way to the bank. The ISB 841is a 7ft. blank if you wanted it shorter I would go with the ISB781 6'6" blank. I use the 7' to give me a little more distance for side arming out over my trolling motor. Re: skipping rod

I like the St. Croix's also but I prefer the MF's. Good luck. Re: skipping rod

GySgt. Kaufmann,
I have been using the Batson Rainshhadow IC722, a 6 ft medium. I personally like the quicker response from the 6 footer and with our stained water and milfoil here in Minnesota, we get get up tight and personal with the docks without spooking the fish. Al McColl Midwest Rod & Reel Re: skipping rod

Al,
funny you should post about milfoil and MN. That is one of the prime areas that I use these rods for. I don't get home too often on leave but I do love that style of fishing. Most of what I have been doing out here in Cali has either been deep football heads, drop shotting (YUCK) or pitching here on my local river (canal for irrigation). Of course there are always lots of Senko's thrown as well. I may too one of those into the mix just for the fun of it and to keep me busy before I transfer back to the East Coast again in Nov. I will now finally be able to make the expo!!! mucho thanks guys, Tom Kaufmann GySgt USMC Re: skipping rod

My favorite is a Rogue SJ604. I skip senkos and tubes with that rod under docks. Great power and nice tip. AC FishinFreaks Rogers, MN Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
