I am considering to change the cork r grip of one my rods. It is well glued to the blank with rod bond. Should I leave it as it ? Or is an easy way of removing the rod bond from the blank?
Thanks terje Re: Removing rod bond

The only way that I know of would be to cut as much of the grip off and then sand down Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Removing rod bond

The easiest way I've found so far was with a thicker bladed lockback knife. I tried razors and coping saws and files, but the lockback was strong enough to be able to do a cut/slight pry. I'm sure there is a bunch of different ways to do it, but this was easiest for me. Re: Removing rod bond

You can make a "hole saw" out of some tubing to fit around the blank to cut off the grip if you want to salvage it for another use, or just hack it off it chunks. After that, I use Phil's method of carving the bulk of the epoxy off and then sanding any small bits clean. No quick and easy way that I know of. Re: Removing rod bond

If you can put it on a lath it will go down faster. You can also take most off and use a small amount as an arbor. Re: Removing rod bond

Are you making a smaller grip so you well have more of the rod exposed. There is no way you can remove the cork without damageing the rod finish. So you now have 2 chooses, #1 try and put a finish over the damage, #2 put a small decorative over the damaged finish.
