Andy, I just ordered my first 15 minute gel and the 5 minute tip top adhesive. Will the tip adhesive soften with heat if I need to repair/replace a tip? Re: For Andy Dear

Funny you mention this. The 5 minute sets up in 5 minutes, HARD. I screwed up my roller tip top alignment a tad and it was bugging me. So to answer your question, heat and muscle will remove even a roller top. I used an alcohol lamp and applied light heat. It took me a bout 1.5 hours to get it off by myself. I kept varying the heat and I did not want to "burn" the top.
It would have been easier if someone was pulling straight and I was heating. It would have been about 5 minutes..lol.. If it is a small top, you can attach a rubber band to it and to the wall. Gently heating the top should have that pop off. Re: For Andy Dear

Absolutely.... I had to remove one just this past saturday. It took about 6 applications of 3-5 seconds of heat from an alcohol torch to soften the epoxy, then just twist it off. BE sure to wear gloves as the tip top will be quite hot. I suppose like Ernie said the bigger tops like rollers would require a bit more heat, but on a fly top or Bass type spin/cast it only takes a minute or two to get it to pop off.

Pulling tip tops is a "3 handed" job...put a screw eye in your wall somewhere(( open the eye with a plier))...hook the tip on that..then heat gently & pull gently. As SOON as it's "hot enough"..it'll release & is now a " 2 handed" task.Or , my Rednck way...drive a finishing nail in the wall & bend a hook in it...hang hat on it when not in use by tip tops.. :>) Edited 1 time(s). I do the same thing by hooking a long leader through the eye of the tip and then the other around the door knob. That way it doesn’t damage the tip and I can reuse it unless it's broke either way makes the job much easier Re: For Andy Dear

For those who have a rod lathe anchored to a bench I chuck in a 1/4 " gate hook...reverse the tip of the rod to the chuck end ,use a leader section looped on both ends...insert thru tip...attach to gate hook and while the rod is laying in the supports apply alcohol burner heat with one hand and pull the rod with the other hand.
