Could someone tell me the best way to ream cork grips? The diameter of the cork is 12mm I need it to be 18mm. These grips are factory made.I have never used cork before and i don't want to stuff them up. Hope someone can help.

Flex Coat Reamer abrasive strip + a cheap-o Glass blank like one of the Mudhole specials will allow you to make a reamer for almost every rod you can build. for not much money. Whether you're using power or human muscles, this is about the cheapest and best way to go when it comes to reamers. Re: Reaming cork grips

There are several reamedr kits available from the sponsors. Then there's the Dream Reamer set. Either way, that's how you do it.
I'm going to suggest that you DON'T try to drill it out. That'll risk chipping the cork inside, or some other similar damage. Uncle Russ Calico Creek Rods Re: Reaming cork grips

If you're just doing one or a few, go to the hardware store and buy a tapered round file or two. Take the grip with you to get the correct diameter file. Then, just work slowly and consistently turning the grip in a set routine (I mark one spot and then take 12-15 strokes in each revolution of the grip in my hand). Check the fit often on your blank so that it slides down just to the reel seat and be careful on your pressure points to not overly enlarge the entrance and exit holes (bottom and top) of the grip and keep the hole centered.
It takes a bit longer than dedicated reamers (for me, maybe 10-15 minutes), but it works for me and I don't have to risk broken off rough reamer chips to scratch the blank pulling the grip on. Tony Mortimer Re: Reaming cork grips

Flex Coat recently introduced some reverse pilot bits for cork grips. A recent issue of RodMaker showed how to make your own. They would make your job something that would take you about 15 seconds and give you a perfect bore, end to end.
Otherwise, follow the advice these other guys have given you and work slowing and carefully, checking for fit often. .................. Re: Reaming cork grips

Billy,,, mentioned to you, but will post so others can see. Best abrasive supplier I know is Klingspor. Truly quality material. I've gone thru many of their mixed grit Bargain Boxes over the years. Their coarse and mediums would seem fitting for reaming. Here's a link: [www.woodworkingshop.com] Re: Reaming cork grips
