Metallic tags

I have done a search on metallic tags and didn't find what I would like to know.
This is for metallic thread. How do you hide the tags so they don't look like the Rocky Mountains.
My wrap is tight and I don't have any fuzzie's but the tags under the wrap look like mountains. (bumps under the wrap)
I've tried burnishing and have burnished enough to break the thread.

On certain clored metallics that's something that can hardly be helped. Just try to keep your tags as short as possible and tuck them on the underside of your guide so they'll be less noticeable.

How many threads cover the tag? I generally do 4 wraps over the tag. As for burnishing, what tool are you using and have you tried rolling the thread with a cheese cutter? The type of cutter I use that has a metal roller tub. If you don' don't have a roller, get a cheese cuter that has a a wire cutter and a metal roller wheel. Cut off the wire and try rolling you your thread. This method works well compressing thread. I hope this works.

nail knot no tag under primary wrap - J Metallic easiest due to controlled stretch and smaller diameter than HT.

A little reading - use search and type in "nail knot" and you will have enough for a few days of reading.

Bill I know a nail knot is used in securing a fly line to a leader line. But how do use it securing a tag line?

Bob - Don't quite understand your question. A nail knot can be used to install a narrow metallic trim band up against a standing guide wrap. When you place the nail knot the tag ends are not pulled under the primary guide wrap and then the metallic tag ends are not visible through the wrap thread nor do they form a hump under A thread. I think that was the original question.

Bob,
A two wrap trim band can be put on as Bill says using a clove hitch which is the most basic form of nail knot. If you can visualize adding a third or fourth wrap to that basic knot you have a nail knot.

No as you are placing this wrap adjacent to a wrap previously completed, For instance I apply a two wrap trim next to the guide wraps I have already completed on many rods I build.
