Has anyone found a dry pigment that will give you a true red color when added to a finish? One that looks red and not thin, see through or washed out?

I haven't yet found a dry one. The one red that I like the most for glossy, rich red color is TAP Plastics red, though. Putter Williston, ND Re: True red color-marbling question

If you paint the blank under the marbling white, the red will be brilliant! Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: True red color-marbling question

Try Candy Apple Nylon over Silver J Metallic thread and use CP to do some swirlies - not marbeling but same effect. Or better still go all the way up the hill and do the Throop/Colby effect in the same manner as above. This idea is not "brilliant" but it works. Match it up with the Strawberries and Cream reel seat from Mudhole. The reel seat is brilliant! Re: True red color-marbling question

I would think, from my limited experience with the dry pigment, you're going to need a good bit of red pigment to get the RED effect. Re: True red color-marbling question

With any of the Pearl Ex pigments (dry powders) that I've used, dark backgrounds are the best with them. Using silver or white underneath gives them that washed-out look. Right over black blanks seems to get them their best look.
The red TAP is really nice over any color. It's completely opaque and covers up even black metallic thread and shows a true, glossy red very well. Over white, it's even a bit nicer yet. Putter Williston, ND Re: True red color-marbling question

I second the TAP Plastic pigment suggestion. I've had great results with their pigments.
When I first tried marbling with pigmented finish it was diffusing into the surrounding background color - not good. On the next attempt I let the background color set up for 30 min before applying the tinted finish. This time the colors did not mix and the boundaries between the two colors remained sharp and distinct. Lou Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
