CUT DOWN SEEKER EX665 - What now?

Hey guys need some rod butchers help.

I was given two of the discontinued Seeker blue E-Glass blanks. Both are EX 665's. Wonderful huh? But, one had a full 12 inches cut off the tip to make it a 5'6" rod and the other had 13" cut off to make it a 5'5" rod.

I know the 665 was a 20-50 lb blank to start with but clearly with this much action cut off the tip I am at a loss to determine what a new rating for these rods might be.

I know ths much - THEY ARE STIFF!

I do not regularly cut off either butt or tip sections but I know some of you all are regulars at it.

Can anyone here help me?

Thanks fellas!

If they cut the tip like that, you might want to make some reamers or maybe a gaff from them.

I actually got three of them and the first one I made into a groupr rod. I was hoping to make some type of trolling rods with these two but if they are too stiff for even that purpose I'll make gaffs or something with them.

Thanks Ernie.

What size tips did you end up with?

Hey Mark,

Not a clue...I do know that on that Grouper stick I built - which was cut down to teh same dimensions - I used the biggest tip that The Jigstock had in stock to fit it. Not sure what the size was though.

Making a gaff out of them may be a good idea. Another option is to make them into planer rods for offshore trolling.

Gaff or pool cue, your choice. Seriously, that much off the tip has pretty much killed the chances of using them for anything like they were designed for.
