Ti/SiC Fujis on a Dan Craft 5wt?

I've just built myself a 7wt with Fuji single foot Ti/SiC guides and I cannot believe the difference it makes when shooting a line over wire guides.

I have a Dan craft FT 905-4 as my next project and I was wondering whether the same rings would weigh too much and spoil the action; I was going to use rec SFs, but now I am not so sure. Would 6mm Dia Ti/SiCs be right for a 5wt, or too small?

Has anyone experience of these rings on a Dan Craft 5 wt?

Mark

I agree with you on the Ti/SiC guides. I don't think I'll ever go back to the Recoils.
I have used them on a DanCraft 6wt and they are great. I'm going to go back on my 4 and 5 wt.'s (not DanCraft) and change the guides out to the Ti/Sic's. I'm thinking of using the size 5.5 or 5's as the runners to the tip. All you need is a hole big enough to allow your knots/loops to pass through (whatever diameter that is?) I'm not worried about the weight. The benefits/advantages IMHO outweigh the weight.
Have fun,
Todd

I can tell you for a fact that Fuji gold Cermet guides are a perfect match on this blank. I have 2 of the FT 904-4, 2 of the FT905-4 and 2 FT907-4 and I would have 2 of the 6wts but they are out of stock. I've fished all the rods so far and I really like um for bass and light saltwater, beautiful actions which are in no way harmed by using ceramic guides. I never use a gold Cermet guide less than a size 7 on any fly rod. If the smallest ring size is a 7mm in a Cermet guide tip top why would you use number 5 and 6 running guides? The notion that the higher end ceramic guides somehow ruin the action of the modern fly rod blank is someones idea which has no bases in fact.

Go with the Fuji Titanium SiCs. You won't be sorry. And, I'm not totally sure about this, but I think that the TLSG design is quite comparable in weight to even the Fuji Titanium Cermets. If they're not quite as light as the cermets, they're awfully close.

Thanks all, I'ii definitely go with the Ti/SiC. Does anyone know if you can get a 6mm tip?

The 6mm tip is available from Mudhole and various other board sponsers:

I doubt that there is any weight difference in the gold cermet guides. Plus, the Ti/SiC tips do come in a #5 and 5.5 for those lighter rods.
