Aloha. Is using an airbrush to paint large, long, surf blanks a feesable way to do the job? Or will buying a auto paint set-up (compresser, spray gun, etc.) be that much better? Mahalo for your responses. Re: Airbrush for painting blanks

I use a Badger 250 airbrush and a hobby compressor

Before they stopped making it I bought enough Hobby Poxy epoxy enamel two-part paint to last me a lifetime. I use a testors airbrush to spray the material once it's mixed. I have adapted the airbrush to use the air supply from a standard air compressor. It works great. The small 1oz glass cup is perfect for the 1/2oz batches I mix. It doesn't take much paint to coat a blank.

I believe Ralph said last year at the Woodland rod show that Perma Gloss was too hot to spray. I would contact Ralph to find out what kind of a reducer you could use. AAguides had a couple of air brushed off- shore rods at the Woodland show this year. They were super looking

It has be sprayed...Others have done it.....I have not......I would have to worry about the safety of such a thing (ventilation and ignition sources) and the fact that Permagloss is such a fast drying product you will likely not be able to save the airbrush without some sort of SERIOUS solvent.
Airbrushing blanks opens up a whole new work of possibilities, especially with the larger blanks. Partial to fades myself. Derek L. McMaster Rohnert Park, CA Born to Fish, FORCED to Work Re: Airbrush for painting blanks

Mahalo to all for your responses. In your opinions will automotive clearcoat be more chip/scratch resistant in the long run than Permagloss? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
