Rodbuilder's Universe

Volume 10 - Issue 2 of Rodmaker Magazine presents the parallel worlds of two true amazing craftsmen. It is totally astounding to me that Scott and Bill, working independently, could have a similar level of understanding dealing with such complex thoughts.

I have used metallic under wraps, nylon thread overlays and color preserver to produce "splotchy" camo and tiger skin backgrounds. My ideas came from Scott's pictures on the photo board. I was quite sure that that was how Scott was doing his astounding work. The article clearly demonstrates that a chosen few have the ability to create and build a Rolex while some of us struggle with telling the time.

One more thing - I am starting to wonder just how much thought goes into Tom's last sentence in each Rodmaker issue. Again this one is pretty strong. If you want to see it buy a copy. Tom, I hope I go away before it does!

The two concepts were similar, but just different enough that I thought I'd include both of them in the same issue. Bill had an interesting extra element that creates a little different look, but Scott's process is more exacting and probably easier for most builders to use. Combine the two and who knows what guys will come up with.

Bill was very candid about the fact that he's only been doing his for a couple years. Scott has been doing his for at least a decade, perhaps longer. I can't remember the exact time frame he gave me, but it's been a good while since he first developed this.

At least one other person had sent me information on this type wrap a few months back and obviously knew how to do it, but they did not write an article. So your rod building universe is even smaller than you might have thought.

Bill, Thanks for the kind words man!

Bruce, Its just a matter of time...I think Doc may have added a 4th dimention when he came up with the "underwater" fish decal idea....im intrigued.

Tom, Thanks again! I cant wait for my issue to arrive!
