I had a professional builder make a spinning rod for me. It was a 7'6" medium light, graphite rod with a slow tip. The rod was kinda flimsy and bent like a parabola. In order to get a good hook set I had to set extra hard. I set the hook on a 2 lb bass and the rod broke into three pieces; tip, butt and mid section. I was using 12lb test mono with the drag set below the breaking strength. Has anyone ever seen a rod break into three pieces? In a situation like this, who eats the cost of a new rod? me the builder or the blank factory?

Sometimes when a rod breaks the shock will cause a catastrophic failure at other points along its length.
The cost of a new rod should have already been worked out at the time you bought the rod. Did the builder not explain his warranty policy to you? Did you ask? The rod could have been defective - but this usually isn't the case. Lots of things could go wrong and there is a lot you're not telling us. Is this a first quality blank or a 2nd? Who is the manufacturer? ................... Re: snapped in 3 pieces

The only rod I've ever broken while fishing did the exact same thing on the first decent fish I hooked. The blank was defective.
In my case, the defective rod was replaced, and I still have that replacement somewhere, with no issues. Was this rod new, or years old? Have you ever "bruised" this rod? -TH Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
