I just read a post on here about black wraps and Flexcoat CP creating a "milky" finish. Not exactly what I am looking for.
I've already coated my gold underwraps with Flexcoat CP. Will it be ok to coat the black D thread double wrapped guides (tuna stick) with U40 Color Lock then use Flexcoat HIGH Build finish over the U40? I've never mixed brands of products and have used Flexcoat products in the past with great success, just never with black wraps. Thanks Re: Flex Coat CP, U40 color Lock then Flexcoat High Build

If you're JUST doing black, you're just wasting CP in my opinion. I never do and in fact didn't even stock NCP black for a long time because I always considered it a waste of money. Black doesn't get any blacker, lighter or otherwise when you apply the finish. What you read about CP on black probably had to do with other colors involved (like trim bands or a weave) that required CP, but the black had to be done in the process. NCP black is dookey looking - kinda offshade to purple in the sunlight. I do not use any CP on black regular nylon. The Flexcoat CP is really a no-no due to the high concentration of white solids. Others use the U40 and the Gudebrod CP successfully. Black is one of my primary use colors for guide wraps.

It will not create a milky colored finish. Be careful of what you accept as fact on the internet.
But it's not necessary to use CP on black thread. Regular black nylon coated directly with epoxy will give you the deepest, truest black. With CP, you get a bit of sparkle or minute flecking sometimes. NCP black has a bit of a very, very dark navy blue to it. .. Re: Flex Coat CP, U40 color Lock then Flexcoat High Build
