HS9001 and New Guide Concept, Fly guides or VS guides to finish?

I'm building on a Batson HS9001, light plugging and topwater stick for Spring stripers on the beach, rivers and inlets. 1/4 oz. to 3/4 oz. lures, 10 # mono and 14 # braid. Are fly guides in between the intersect guide and tip top strong enough, or should I stay with VS or similar type guides. I was thinking size #7 guides either way.

Thanks for the help

Luis Morales

Low frame single foot fly type guides are strong enough. They'd be stronger than the rod is in that area.

Exactly! I use the HS9000 Loomis (even lighter) and fight bull reds (35"+) and large snook (40"+) with no issue and use nothing but single foot guides.

Great, thanks, as mentioned I'll be using this as a spinning/ really light plugging stick, but I never really knew what and how a hotshot rod is/was used for?

Luis - You could flip a coin to make it even more interesting. ... I'd check the guide's footprint to see if there is a preference, for a flatter / bigger sole to lay a better hold on the rod blank when wound down. ... Have fun whipping plugs out there for your spring stripers. ...

Luis just finished the same rod and used the # 7 fuji alconite fly guides the only problem I have heard regarding the # 6 fy guides is sometimes those using braid will have a problem with knot clearance through the smaller guides, but even the # 6 guides have no problem regarding strength
