Please send some pics or suggestions of some large flies that can be used for stripers. I will be traveling to alabama to fish.

I've used deceiver and clouser minnow flies. Nothing fancy. Stripers are pretty dumb and think with their stomachs - they see something that somewhat resembles food they're going to try to eat it.

I don't know if freshwater stripers behave any differently than their salty brethren, but this is an ongoing debate I've been having with people who fly fish for stripers in my part of the world (New Jersey).

There are those who disagree, but I firmly believe that most of the time it matters very little what fly you're tossing. Stripers are not trout, and are extremely opportunistic feeders, and throwing just about anything in front of their snout will likely result in a strike. There are times and places where patterns and colors do matter, of course, but most of the time fisherman vastly overestimate the importance of patterns, size, colors, etc. It's my opinion that you could be armed only with one fly -- a white streamer of your choosing -- and you could still do very, very well fishing for stripers.

well you might try a large foam popper, in what ever color white I would think would work good...and maybe try some tarpon flies in various colors, and a deciever would also work.

Get on @#$%& and go through their archived listings of flies it shows a pic and how to tie em. they have a lot that would be right up your alley.
