Hey Everyone,
I'm looking at building a couple of reamers based on the instructions in the library section of this site. I was just wondering if any of you have some broken sections of blanks that you're willing to part with that could be used to make these. I'll be happy to pay shipping and handling to get them to Texas. Thanks in advance, Take care, Jeff Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/21/2007 03:41PM by Jeff Shields. Jeff, The only advice to making your own, is to make sure they're plenty long enough. In fact, when you think they are, look add another six inches to be sure. I occassionally make my own when standard sizes don't seem to work for a particular blank. I made some from too-short segments that made it difficult to ream out 12-25 inch bait casting handles. Short reamers work great if you are reaming out fly rod handles or foregrips, but unusable for longer grips. I've recycled the bottom halves of two piece rods of broken rods. After stripping off the guides, they really work great as reamers because they already have a nice, grippable handle. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/21/2007 09:27PM by Patrick Vernacchio. Neal's has exactly what you want, plus the grits to put on them in three different granulations. Be careful of the adhesive you use, though - some of them don't work for this purpose.
When you get ready to buy some, might I suggest the Batson ones. It's a super kit for the money. Uncle Russ Calico Creek Rods Re: Building Reamers - Blank donations ??

Be sure of the taper if you make your own (and some you buy). If you end up using solid glass blanks, be careful. The tip sections of these have good tapers, but as you get up about middle way toward the butt the taper straightens out alot. These don't make for very good reamers. Just be sure to use a section of blank that has enough taper to do the job you want it to. Some productions reamers can have this problem as well.
I believe contact cement is a good choice for sticking on abrasive strips. Jay Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
