I am building my first stand up rod. On the rear grip should the gimbal be installed first and the grip slid to it or should the grip be installed first leaving room for the gimbal? Thanks for the help. Re: Stand up rear grip

Put the gimbal and mark the edge onto the blank. Then wrap masking tape stop collar about a 1/16 of a inch back from that line towards the butt end of the blank if you are using eva or hypalon materials. The gimbal is the last thing that I put onto the rod this leaves me the butt end of the rod to grip with my power wrapper. I wouldn't think it would be nessary if you are hand wrapping though. Guess it could be put on first but even with hand wrapping you may want to use that section of the butt of the blank to turn on. Thad Dutchman's Creek Tackle Re: Stand up rear grip

Like Mark said do it last. If this is your first stand up build , I like to have the reel on too, to adjust it to the way that it feels in the belt. Just a thought that works for me. Tight lines Bill Rice Re: Stand up rear grip
