Snake guide repair questions?

I may have to redo a couple of snake guides and there are a little out of alignment. I've stripped off a few in the past but I noticed that there is a little pocket of epoxy surrounding the area where the snake guide sat. So here is the question, how do you remove this pocket without damaging the blank? I tried a razor knife but it sometimes takes off the outer coating of the blank.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Bill Re: Snake guide repair questions?

Bill,
I think you have a couple of options. You can remove the existing epoxy and place epoxy where the old came off. Or, you can leave it and place the guide into the old footprint left behind. If the old epoxy is yellowed, you would be better served b taking it off. Its happened to all of us in the past and is never a problem. Good luck! Bill, I avoid using a razor because I have sliced off strips of blank material. I'm fortunate so far that either rod I damaged has failed over the years. I usually warm the residue up a bit and then "scrape" it away with a finger nail or an old credit card. They do no damage to the blank.
The only downside to using a fingernail is that my fingertips get a little sore for a few days afterward, so if you go that route, convince your wife to do the job for you. What a great way to get her involved in your interests! :>) Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/21/2007 01:14PM by Patrick Vernacchio. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
