Cheap Material for an extra rod section?

I am thinking of building an extra section to bring a 3 piece travel spinning rod to 9'6". Any Ideas,

You need to maintain a continuity of action and flex throughout the rod so just sticking anything in there somewhere isn't going to work. Your best chance will be to construct a new butt section of something like a scrap section of graphite.
