i just started doing this a couple months ago and i've been progressively trying more time consuming butt wraps and have a few questions
1. when doing a 4 axis wrap do you guys just mark your centers for your first cross?or do ya'll mark the center of the blank all the way down for every axis to make sure you cross in the exact center every time? 2. what type of pencil do most use? i have a china pencil but it doesn't mark very well on these cts blanks 3. do ya'll wrap the blank first with a solid color so you can lay out your more intricate patterns more accurately? 4. how do you cope with the change in blank diameter? do you move your marks closer together as you go farther down the blank or just leave it the same? 5. last but not least i hear abunch of ya'll are starting to use madeira thread but do you use rayon or plyester or polyneon? thanks for any and all help Re: newbie with a couple questions

1-I mark all the centers on every axis,I then use the light beam reflected from above to insure the straightness of the centers as I go along.
2-Depending on blank color it varies.A light colored blank I use a lead pencil. It also will work on a dark color blank but is a little harder to see.I stay away from markers as I dont want it to bleed through when finish is applied.I believe a few pages down some one else had another pencil they used and said it was better. 3-If the wrap is closed no need to underwrap.I feel it makes it a little harded to pack the threads with an underwrap as the threads are hard to move. 4-There is a formula using blank circumferance.Basically the centers get closer near the butt and further away at the tip end.I`d elaborate but I`m sure I will mess it up.I`m at work and dont have the book in front of me for the correct wording. 5-Madeira Polyneon 40.Takes a little getting used to,stretches a little but turns out to be easier in the long run.
