All-
I've noticed discoloration on non-burl traditional cork as a result of cork sanding when making my own handels on a lathe with mixed types...They almost look dirty...How do you keep the dust from running and smearing the cork...I have tried cleaning them, however it isn't 100%...I would appreciate any help or suggestions. I sand with 60, 220, and 600...Mostly shape with Sandpaper. Thanks, Jeffrey Re: Question on Cork Sanding

I use rubbing alcohol after final shaping/sanding while the grip is still turning. You could also use a mild detergent (Ivory dish soap) mixed with warm water and an old toothbrush. Don't forget to seal the cork after cleaning using U-40's Cork Sealer. This will keep those grips looking new for many seasons to come!

Just like John... I get a rag wet with alcohol and while the grip is turning apply it to the grip.

Hey Matt!!!!
Don't know if you remember or not, but you are the guy who got me interested in rodbuilding! I saw your post on RS about the spinning rod you made in 2005 and asked you some questions. Glad that you were so nice in sharing rodbuilding info. I may have never even started if it wasn't for you! Thanks again! John Bunner Re: Question on Cork Sanding

John and Matt have it right, but I also add the step of wiping the grips down with a tack-cloth after each change of grit.
