I posted a picture on the photo page of a Castaway production rod. It is a split handle, split reel seat, and no fore grip bass rod. They had the rod at their booth last week at the ESPN Outdoor Show in Birmingham, Alabama. Re: Custom ideas spilling into production rods

You know the old story. When you can't build the best at least you can copy them Re: Custom ideas spilling into production rods

I saw a rod like that at the Castaway booth this past Saturday at a fishing tackle show here in Houston. I was very disappointed in the workmanship of that rod. The cork grip was made of very poor grade cork in my opinion and I did not like the shape of it. The end of the grip where it met the rubber ring had a gap in between the cork and the check. The Tactical Assault and Stealth rods have been using these concepts for some time. I was told they had an agreement with Rich Forhan to use his concepts for years now. Re: Custom ideas spilling into production rods

One of the pro's in a recent Florida tournament had a titanium rod with spiral wraps. In fact, he had 14 of them, supplied by his sponsor.

Hi, I have a question about this post, I may be a little confused. Does this post mean that you can not built a rod with split grips and offer it for sale, or built as a spiral or simple bumper wrap and offer it for sale. Thanks for your help, Rich. Re: Custom ideas spilling into production rods

You can build/sell anything you please. It is how you market such ideas that might get you into trouble with the lawyers. Re: Custom ideas spilling into production rods

I think your ok as long as you don't describe it as a "Revolver Rod", or anything real close to it. Re: Custom ideas spilling into production rods

Hi Joe and Spencer, thank you for your help. I realize I would not want to use a term that has been trademarked. I am not sure if I could reference the term bumper wrap anywhere when describing a rod for sale, would simple spiral be appropriate. I have used a rod with split grip design handle for reference when selling a rod, I hope that was OK. I am just not sure what is appropriate and what is not. Have a great day, Rich. These custom touches are purely aesthetic. I doubt any have been setup based on a blanks flex characteristics, type of reel and line to be used etc. I have had this discussion many times with some who have paid 300.00 plus for a rod off the shelf, then tell everyone they use a custom rod.
That is one discussion I have never lost! Regards......Doug@ TCRds Re: Custom ideas spilling into production rods

Rich, follow what Joe said. In addition, you can use any and all ideas I published in RodMaker, plus you can advertise that you build in the "Revolver style" - it's OK . My Revolver Rod (a trademarked name) - is a no-foregrip, split grip, modified reel seat, spiral wrap, baitcasting rod. The name (Revolver Rod) is mine - the ideas I have been pushing for some time - I think a few companies outside custom rod builders are starting to listen - as evidenced by their new rods, developed through "extensive research" (they read RodMaker or my book). Hi Mr. Forhan. I do not what to say, except thank you very much for answering my post. I did start to worry about using a split grip design there for a while. Thank you again for your reply, have a great day, Rich. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
