Guide Size identification?

Is there a reference for measurement of guide size? I want to duplicate the size of a broken guide, but do not know the size and cannot find a reference that allows me to measure the old guide and identify its size.

thanks,

Steve

Steve,,, I think it is a bit hit-n-miss. Guides I've looked at measure the ring size by the outside diameter of the ring. Heights given are usually the overall height to the top of the frame from the foot (useful) and from the foot to the bottom of the outside of the ring. Ring thicknesses vary. The more usefull thing would be measurements relative to the inside ring surface, but that is not what I've seen..

Stephen,
Aside from the make and style of guide, if you can measure the inside diameter of the guide you're looking to replace, using calipers or by trying drill sizes for a best fit, I can give you the comparable ring size (in Fuji). The style or type and the material (hardloy, Alconite, ti) may be pertinent.

I find a double pointed dividers are good for measuring and transferring this dimension, either the I.D. or O.D. of the ceramic ring to try and match it up to another ring or one of the ring charts that are available. Jansnetcraft has many such illustrations in their catalog. I cut out and laminate over an outdated catalogs copy of one of htese charts and keep it in my guide drawer next to the tip gauge
