The guides you saw on Daniel's rod are the Mudhole Fireball red guides. Red frame, gold (zirconia?) ring. Mudhole labels them as freshwater guides though: don't think they've been fully tested in salt water.

The Mud Hole fire ball red guides are suggested to be used for fresh water only. However, as I never seem to be able able to do what is suggested to me I have used these guides on my favorite pole which I use in saltwater and have no trouble with them. I do wash them after every trip as I do all my rods but after two years they look as good as new. You do have to be a little careful with them as the red seems to chip if you bang it against something but I think this will happen with most guide if you are not careful. But they really give the pole some pop. I guess what I am saying is they might take a little more care but I would use them again on a saltwater rod just explain that up front.

They are not anodized. Just painted red. Looks like they have green ones too.

I used some blue ones from Pac Bay that were not intended for salt water use, and they turned black after a few trips to the beach.......totally my fault because I missed the "freshwater use" suggestion. If I really wanted to use the colored guides in saltwater again,I'd carefully coat the frames with Perma Gloss and see how that works.
