Cork tape Question

OK, here's my dilemma. I have a couple of rods that the cork tape is wearing away, therefore it is no longer smooth or round, guess I'm a bit aggressive, LOL. I plan on using quick grip or Nu Skin Rod Armor to replace the cork tape. With the exception of my main surf rod that I have worn down to the blank, will replace the cork tape on this one, I would like to just install the Quick Grip/Rod Armor over the cork tape. Is there any way to fill in the worn out areas?? Could I fill it in with epoxy? Tape? It will be covered over I just want to make it round again?
Any ideas rod guru's??? Thanks Tony Re: Cork tape Question

If it were me I'd take off the old tape, install new cork tape, then the Rod Armor. Why mess around trying fill in the low spots. Re: Cork tape Question

Bruce, some of it isn't too bad. I hate to spend the money/time when my intent was to change them over with a quick grip type material anyway. I find that the cork tape on a surf rod does a number on the waders, causing a leak in a very uncomfortable spot, LOL. Re: Cork tape Question

Yeah Tony, I know what you mean. The only time I use cork tape anymore is under the Rod Armor, or Quick grip. Re: Cork tape Question

Bruce, I've used Quick Grip and Amtak X-tube, but not Rod Armor. Any preferences?? They both work about the same?? I've been happy with the quick grip, any reason to change?
Sorry to pick your brain! Tony Re: Cork tape Question

My personal opinion is that Rod Armor is far superior to the others mentioned. It looks thicker, and holds up better in the beach enviornment that I use it in.......the only downside is it's a bit more expensive. In this case I feel that you get what you pay for. I've also read some complaints about these products not shrinking to the advertised diameter (usually 50%). The Rod Armor will easily live up to what is advertised. Re: Cork tape Question
