Cleaning Up Cork

Hello All,
I hope you rae all having an enjoyable saturday morning. I've got a question about cleaning up some dirty cork grips. I have shows coming up and want to make my demo rods look a little better. What have you guys done to take some of the dirt out of the cork? Water and toothbrush? Does alcohol work okay? How about bleach? Thanks for the info!

Dish soap or "Simple Green" and a scotchbright pad works really good.
If you have some really stubborn stains a light sanding will take care of
them.

Andrew-- An (oldtimer) bamboo flyrod builder told me to use Soft Scrub tub & tile cleaner with warm water and a tooth brush. Use a soft tooth brush, after you rinse it off just air dry.
If the grip is soiled real bad , instead of rubbing to hard on the grip just clean it two or even three times.
Works for me hope it woks for you.<<DON>>

Good Day - Oh ! How I wish I was at the show!!!!!

Hey guys,
Thanks for the info! I will give them a try. Don, I've got some soft scrub that should work really well. It's got that abrasive chunks in it that will elp work the dirt and sweat out of the pores.
Thanks,
Andrew

A builder of bamboo fly rods once told me Brillo or S.O.S pads were the ticket for cleaning cork grips. They've worked well for me. If the wife has 'em, use 'em.

After cleaning a light buffing with 320 grit sand paper helps as well.

Solution of 1/3 Chlorox and 2/3 water ambient + dip + 30 min sunshine + fresh water rinse + two hours to dry + 220/400 sandpaper buff + one coat of Cork Seal. Good to go! No solvent or surfactant if unseald cork with filler. If you do not want to do this again just Flock It!
