To get up to speed with all the new finishes out there, I want to do some test wraps. Where would be a good source for scrap blank pieces?

John,

Check with any of the archery suppliers in your area. They should have tons of pieces that they cut off of carbon arrows. They'll usually give you as much as you want. They're perfect for practice or sample wraps.

Hey William thats my trick and I make most ppl by my book before I tell them that, especailly as lazy as I am. Those trimmed carbon arrow shafts are good for matte black finishes, they my even come in more colors than that now which mimic rod blanks. To get a good selection of varing colored blanks you may have to hit a number of loactions: garage sales, ROD BUILDERS have lots of scraps, The best is are rod repair guys, flea markets, and I've had luck with some sponcers like Neals for scrap segments for extending butt sections, (You'd inquire about varing colored segments) you have to keep your eyes open and look around. If you check out all these places you should come up with all the colors possible to work out varying color thread schemes, I do have many more sure fire places I know you can look, but as lazy as I am you'll have to buy my book to get the in depth real end all deal. Forgive the gratutious salemanshipbut even regulars like Mr. Bill make suggestions like, click here, get this issue stuff all the time, he was even pushing the recent Rod Maker edition with his artical in it via e-mail, but I imagine he will be disinterested if I start promoting, even if fictional

Thanks guys. I hadn't thought of an archery shop - I used an old golf shaft in the past, but that's long gone.
