To you guys who paint/air brush your blanks I have a few questions\
1: which type paint do you use do you do any real prep work besides light sand? 2: which type clear coat do you use? 3. DO you paint the blank while hanging it vertically of horiziontal? 4. what type of nossel do you use? i have a 3.5 is that sufficiant? any trick or hints to pass along will be greatly appreciated. thanks Greg Re: airbrushing rod blanks

Those that are painting blanks may already know this but I thought that I would mention it for anyone who does not. It may well be worth it to get the color blank that you want but most of the potential coatings are surprisingly dense and can add as much as 5% or even 10% to the weight of the blank plus they are plastic as opposed to elastic which means that the added weight and plasticity can significantly reduce the finished rod's performance. I've only airbrushed one and that was to get a camoflauged effect. Otherwise I tint PermaGloss and wipe it on in a single pass. Wait 20 minutes and then wipe on another coat, again in a single pass.

There is a wealth of information on this very subject available to answer all of your questions provided in the archives. Derek L. McMaster Rohnert Park, CA Born to Fish, FORCED to Work Re: airbrushing rod blanks

I usually paintbrush the blanks with polyurethanic paint, in two coats, and when the rod is completed, I use one coat of epoxy. I use this metod only for saltwater rod and often only for trolling rods.

I had six inches of airbrush work done on four Rods just above top grip. Acrylic water-based paint was used and now I'm having problems with the paint bleeding when I put the UL-40 supreme on. Is something I can use to stop the bleeding before I use the UL-40 supreme . Thanks Re: airbrushing rod blanks
