Seaker 196, 6-foot, Number of guides issue

I'm building a 15-lb class, conventional offshore rod on a Seaker 196 glass 6-foot blank.

Looking at factory versions of this rod, I see they typically have 8 guides (including tip). However, when testing them in the store, I find that the line always drops below the blank at about the third guide from the tip when under load.

On my own blank, I tried every positional adjustment can think of to resolve this issue with no luck. Finally, I solved by going with 9 guides.

It works, but 9 guides on a 6 foot, light rod seems excessive. Anyone else have experience with this blank? Should I just relax?

Wrap with the simple spiral and ALL your problems go away. In addition, you will have completely eliminated the rod torque issue, giving you a much more stable rod reduce fatigue from fighting fish.

If it takes 9 guides to accomplish what you are looking to do. Then that what it takes. If how ever you are looking for a better solution with fewer guides. Then I would suggest going with a spiral wrap set up.

It may take 9 guides if you wrap it conventional. I've got a 6' Ultra-ultra light if that makes any sense, that probably has 13 or 14 guides on it to keep the line off the blank. @#$%& to cast, but wasn't designed to be cast anyway.

That 196 has a soft tip, and good strong butt. I can see it taking quite a few guides.

Looking back now I wish I had done the simple spiral and tried that, could have probably knocked off at least three or four guides.
