Hi Guys,
For my current rod, I was planning on using Recoils until I heard the grooving possibilities, so I've decided to go back to conventional guides. For the bottom section of the rod (6' 6" spinning rod) I'll be using Fuji TATSG (size 20, size 12 and size 8). For the top section, I'm not sure which of the TLSG or TSG guides I should be using (size 7 and 2 x size 6). Apparently the TLSG is the concept J frame guide and therefore the TSG sits a little higher. Which of these guides goes better with the TATSG guides? Thanks. Re: Fuji TLSG or TSG

The difference in height is so slight that it's not going to make much difference. I like the ring attachment on the LSG models so I use those.
Does anyone have a photo of a Recoil that's actually been grooved? ............. Re: Fuji TLSG or TSG

For those sizes, the difference is negligible. Other than what Tom mentioned, the only difference I see between the TSGs and the TLSGs is the length of the foot. The TSGs seem to be longer (before grinding). Again, that doesn't really make any difference, as you hardly need half the length of a TLSG foot to keep the rod on the blank.
I tend to buy the TLSGs because they're the newer, (and supposedly) better models. But, if you find TSGs cheaper, go for it. Re: Fuji TLSG or TSG

TSG weigh a touch more but cost a bit less. Otherwise, very similar. Height difference is negligible.
If you're building a really light rod as suggested by your TATSG 1st guide of size 20, then TLSG may be justified. That's of course assuming that you're building as lightly as possible. If you glob on the finish over the thread, then any weight gain you've made is pretty negligible by paying extra for the TLSG. Mo Re: Fuji TLSG or TSG

By the way, no doubt recoil grooves but I think the problem may be exaggerated - meaning it is generally not as bad for most light freshwater. I still plan to use it for a 9 1/2 feet lamiglass XMG salmon blank for absolutely the lightest build possible using to fling 1/4 oz lures as far as possible without having to go over 10 feet long.

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like the TLSG's are the go since they the TSG's are only marginally cheaper.
Tom, yes it would be interesting to see a photo of a grooved recoil guide that wasn't cut with a file (I think Raymond Adams did this test and posted it on the photos site). Also it seems that fly fisherman are the one's that have apparently grooved them, so I wonder if its the dirty fly line causing it? Mo, yes I am trying to build as light as possible. I actually have the recoil guides but after the posts lately I've decided against them. I will be using braided line and the rod will be a a very light one, so I may not really run into any problems. The rod will only be used in saltwater too, so both the recoils and titanium fuji's should be fine in that environment, its just that I like the recoils durability (it seems that the tip guides are the first one's that get an accidental whack on the side of the boat for me, so that's why I wanted to try out recoils).
