I am looking at buying a lighter reel seat for my next fly rod but need a little help in interpreting the dimensions:
1) Length (is this overall length, length of the insert, or some other length? 2) O.D. (I assume this is Outside Diameter, but outside diameter of which component of the reel seat?) 3) I.D. (Same question as #2 above) 4) Frt Pocket O.D. Any help would be great! Brian Re: What do fly reel seat dimensions mean?

Doubt any two companies would measure them the same way. No set of universal standards as far as I know. Call or e-mail the company and ask. That's about all you can do. Re: What do fly reel seat dimensions mean?

1. Usually overall length.
2. Max OD of reelseat components except pocket. The wood OD is usually very close to OD of thread outer edges so you have a pretty straight path. 3.ID is the hole they bored in the wood insert or is in the Aluminum reelseat body if it's a solid reelseat. You can usually get a custom bore from them for a small fee if it's possible and you're blank is a little bigger. Andy Snedden did a little more than expected on some reelseats that were to fit the big butted Perigee blanks, thanks Andy again. 4. There is I believe 2 Front pocket diameters on reelseats that hide up inside the cork grip, depends on the reelseat OD I believe as to which is used. A 5 size reelseat pocket is I believe smaller than an 8 by like an 1/8 inch or something. Been a while since I looked it up. Re: What do fly reel seat dimensions mean?

Thanks a bunch, Spence. It's all coming clear, now.
