I am going to build my first multi piece spin pack rod.. I've found a Rainshadow 4 piece 6', 4-8lb. I assume you spline each section, and do the static line test like all other builds.
I am looking for guide size / type recommendations and should I wrap each female section of the ferules? Any other advice would be appreciated as I can't seem to find much info on the subject. Thanks Re: Questions on First Pack Rod Build

That little spin bass blank (SB720-4, RX6 graphite) makes a sweet pack rod. You don't have to spine the sections, but if you really want to, yes, spine each section. What you'll find is that once it's assembled, the "spine" will rarely be in alignment with those of each section. Best bet is to put ti together on it's straightest axis.
I built mine using Fuji Alconites. BYAG 20, 12, 8L, then BLAG 6's out to the tip (4 if I recall correctly), built New Concept style around a Cardinal C100UL. Split grip with downlocking seat, no foregrip. You do need the wrap each female ferrule section to prevent splitting. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/14/2007 03:33PM by Ted Morgan. Check the ferrule openings of each section. Many times the manufacturer has spined/splined each section for you. The marks are usually located inside the ferrule openings. Shorter sections are subjected to more stress when you bend them individually. When I bought a pack rod kit from Dan Craft a few years back, he included a message with the package warning me against spining the rod. If you don't see any markings, I would agree with Ted's recommendation to orient the guides along a section's straightest axis'. Edited 2 time(s). Thanks for the advice. Do you normally put a wrap also on the male end of each section to make the wrap look balanced ? Re: Questions on First Pack Rod Build

Although I have on a few rods, I normally do not. Once the rod is together, they generally look asthetically pleasing. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
