I would have to say he means "Cross" wrap....ie an X shaped butt wrap.
Just my 2¢ Re: x- wrap

If he said X wrap handle grip, I would assume that he wants the handle covered with the "X" shrink tube
[shop.mudhole.com] Why not just ask him?? Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: x- wrap

"X-Flock" is the common term and it's AKA Shrink Wrap, X-Tube, etc.... It's a popular covering, but there are a LOT of applications. It's most common here on "deckhand" style casting rods w/o a reel seat over either cork tape or foam tape. There's no cushion to it so it's never really applied directly over the blank.
It's getting more and more use over EVA and Hypalon too and if your customer's calling for a reel seat, that's more than likely what he's after. Knowing that those are your options, you might ask him what he wants the "X-Wrap" applied over (shaped cork or EVA, straight Hypalon, etc...) and see what length front/rear grips he's after and you'll at least have enough info to give him a quote. There's not much to installing the stuff and it won't take you more than a few minutes. no sense in going into how to do all the different applications till you nail down which one he's after. Once you at least get the configuration he wants, many of the good folks here can give you installation info.
