finish problem

I have completed a rod and the finish is not smooth enough in that it is wavey. Can I sand alittle with 400 grit and apply another coat of finish?

Absolutely. Then just keep your subsequent coat(s) of finish thin and use lengthwise strokes to level. Randy.

Generally waves and lumps are the result of applying too much finish. Check the volume 9 #1 issue of RodMaker on how to obtain a perfectly level and smooth finish every time.

In the meantime, use that sanding block to level things and have another go at it. It won't take much finish to regloss what you have now.

Thanks everyone. I knew I applied too much thinking it would be alright. Stupid! I lightly sanded and reapplied. Might do another light coat later tonight. Thanks again,
