Lamiglass LSJ700 sjr blank and ferrules

Hi

I posted a little while ago asking for input on blanks - to which I had a great response - thanks!

I have now decided what model - Lamiglass XMG50 LSJ700. The snag is I need it to be a 2- or 3-piece. My plan is to buy 2 blanks and use one for ferruling. Following the rule of thumb that ferrule wall thickness needs to be 2x blank wall, I plan to make double-wall ferrules using the scrap blank. Since I don't yet have the blank and can't handle one before ordering, I wondered if anyone could advise me whether the taper would allow at least a 2.5" overlap for a double wall ferrule. Is 2.5" long enough?

If anyone has an other comments (especially the 'don't do it I tried and it didn't work' sort), please share them. I have looked everywhere for a factory 2 piece in the correct taper but to no avail. It seems that blanks made for the bass market are almost without exception 1-piece - perhaps a market perception that action or strength is somehow impeded? I have recently moved countries and don't have access to scrap bits of blank and a full workshop, so I need things to fit properly.

Thanks

Rolfe

Rolfe,
You might want to read the article on Rod Repair in the library. Bob

Thanks Bob, the article is very useful. It sounds a little more complicated than I had hoped!

You would probably want a glass ferrule on that light a blank. Get with Andy Dear and get a comparable CTS 3 piece blank built. Great products at a great price.
