Hi.
I'm looking to build a couple to walleye trolling rods. I will be using #4 and #5 shad raps. Looking to use 8-9 foot blanks. This will allow me to get a better spread out of the boat. I like the fly blanks for their moderate action. I'm thinking about using a 7 or 8 weight 2 piece blanks. I'm wondering if any of you have done this already. If so, how did it work out? What would you change? Any suggestions for a moderately priced blank? As always, thanks so much for your time and experience! Kevin Re: Fly blanks for walleye crankbait trolling

In '03, I made a pair for myself from some AmTak 90212 12wt 9'0" blanks. I picked them up from Jann's on the left (site sponsor). I use mostly #7 and 8 Shad Raps or the #4 and 5 jointed shad raps with them.
I'm pretty happy with both of them. I still use monofilament, so I think I'd be a bit happier with a faster blank for my own application, but these do just fine for me. Putter Williston, ND Re: Fly blanks for walleye crankbait trolling

You might check out the Batson RDR86M (8'6" 2PC, 10-17Lb line wt., app $30). I troll for walleye's a lot and have great success with the Shimano Talora M or ML 8' rods pulling Shad Rap's, Tail Dancer's, and others from size 4-9. I'm currently building out a couple of Batson RDR80M's to try out and I'll see next year how they work but they feel like they should work out well. Re: Fly blanks for walleye crankbait trolling
