I had to use a little steel wool on a Butt-Wrap. It worked fine but dulled the finish. Is there a way to restore the luster of the epoxy short of applying another coat ?
Thanks Jim Re: Epoxy Finish

If it's hard enough, you can buff the finish out. The process requires a light hand. However, it is far easier to apply a thin coat of finish to restore lusture and clarity. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/03/2007 03:36PM by Patrick Vernacchio. Re: Epoxy Finish

Patrick is correct. It is a lot of work multi sanding. If I sanded I would use a auto-paint wet/dry sand paper. Starting with 220 then move on to 400 and finish with 600 in some cases you may have to go to 1000 paper. Now depending how rhick your finish is you may sand though. I would also do this at a high speed. When you wet the paper add a little licquid soap. This well help keep the paper from building up with sanded materials

My own trials with this were that it didn't quite get to the shine of unsanded epoxy, Jim. It was close, but I could tell the difference, and I went to (I'm pretty sure) 1200 wet paper with it. Putter Williston, ND Re: Epoxy Finish

would gudebrod speedcoat (rod restorer) help in this case ? takes less time than regular epoxy and lesser effort than sanding/buffing

How thick is your finish.. Speed coat is not designed as a thread finish. You might try one of the Trondak-Uro products like Perma Gloss. It goes on like water and no mixing.

yeah, rod restorer is not to be used as a thread finish, but it may work to cover the dullness and resotre the gloss..
whether it can stand up to the harsh environment, is another question .. - Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.. Teach a man to fish, he'll be broke! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
