EVA/MOOSESKIN GRIPS

Although I am relatively new to rod building, building my first float rod,it is very, very addicting. What a wonderful hobby. In the last 6 months of research I have learned so much from Tom K's book, several video's from Putter, several other books, but most of all from this site. What a wealth of info., everybody willing to help each other.Excellent site Tom.The bug bit me real hard ,can not wait to build more rods.Anyway, here is my question. I would like to build a float rod, split grip(my favorite style), using EVA foam or mooseskin, in a black/red varigated style. Can this material be lathed/sanded down like cork? Will this ruin the texture or colors? Can I contour it to fit next to a winding check to finish it off? Any help is appreciated. Thanks and Happy Holidays!!!

All the foam type materials can be sanded and worked just like cork
only easier! Like Mike said below a Stanley Sureform file is great
for rounding off blocks of EVA or Clemens custom grip. Sand paper
and rasps will shape it in no time flat. A lot of builders use drywall
sanding screen as it doesn't clog up like a file and sandpaper do.

@#$%& had some eva grab bags with a pound or 2 of grips at
one time. If they are still available get one and you got lots of practice
material. Have fun on some cheap disposable stuff before attacking
a special preformed already reamed grip. The stuff works so easy it's
easier to screw up and ruin one.

Oh, Neals has tons of eva grips discounted as well.
