Fuji Match Guides

Hello, I'm looking for a vendor in the US that sells the Fuji NMVST (tip top) MYSG (single leg guide) and NMVSG (double foot guides). I've looked at a few of the sponsors but I'm having no luck. I did find them on a English tackle site but I was wondering if any of the sponsors carry or can get them. I even looked at the Fuji site with no luck. I'd like to give my business to a sponsor come the new year when I'll be order.

Thank you,

Randy

Match guides, and especially double foot guides haven't been popular in the US for some time, the single foot guides were always more popular. I prefer the Pac Bay or Batson guides over the Fujis.

Randy , if you are interested in the Batson guides , In addition to the ones on our website , we also carry the black frame with gold ring and black frame with the TiCh ring . Like Spencer said the M guides have not been very popular , but we are getting more orders and calls for them so may be that is changing .

I've really liked the match guides since I first was introduced to them on a G Loomis IM6 1141 steelhead rod.

Thank you for all the replys. The guides I found were on the guides and blanks site at first. I really like how the Euro style rods are set up. How do the Harrison blanks perform. The rod is going to be used for stick float fishing in the warmer months. The Batson guides are really nice too and the good thing is they go down to a size 4 ring which is exactly what I'm considering. Only problem with them in my opinion is the style of the legs. I've had bad luck with guides that style (Pac-Bay). That is the reason I was considering the fuji guides.

If I choose to go with the match guides what size ring would I start off with? Would I start with a 16,12, or 10? From there would I then step down sizes until I reach the size 4's to the tip??? Any advice?

Again thank you everyone for the replys.

Randy

You could always go to a BMYAG SF and a BMNVAT Top. Merrick has them which as Ive seen here before you can get them through ACK to the left. What size/type line will you be using with this set up? Is it a spinning reel your using or a centrepin?
Harrison makes a good blank with quite a bit of choice as far as float/match rods.

I have a 12 ft match rod at the house I've had for 20 years with H & H double foots on it. The first guide is a 10, than a 8, than 2 6s I think , and the rest I believe are 4s. It's a 1 to 4 kilo line rated blank. 3 piece blank, the tip is all light powered, and firms up extremely quick toward the butt. Much firmer in the butt section than the rods we use here for salmon/steelhead with the same line rating, the butt is closer to what we'd see on a rod with an upper rating of maybe 15 lb line. It also a cannon that will cast across most rivers here in southwest WA easily,

I'm considering a pin or a closed face reel (with a push button face) with some fairly light line. With a main around six and leaders in the two pound class. I've looked into the BYLGs and I haven't seen sizes less than a seven ring but then again I could be mistaken. Spencer, have you used the rod for salmonids at all? From your description of it it sounds like it might work.

Again thank you,

Randy

Not to sound stupid, but are Match guides primarily used on long float type rods?? Not really familiar with them but what are the advantages and what type fishing would their be an advantage? Someone educate me, please

Mike, Yes the match guides are used on long float rods.

To the best of my knowledge they are used to keep the ultra thin diameter lines from sticking to the blank when wet. According to the UK rodbuilding site link that is posted a 13 foot rod calls for around 16 guides.

The long float rods are used for controlling how the float tracks through the water aswellas to cushion light leaders.

I hope someone else can chime in.

Hello,

I'm from Germany and not so familiar with english, but with uk-style float fishing. Randy is right. There are some types of fishing and specialist fishing rods for float fishing here. The most popular rods are 13 ft. so called "match rods", but the rods are available in length up to 20 ft.. There are mainly two types. The stick rods and the waggler rods. The Waggler rods were generally fished with waggler (uk-style special floats). There is a great varity of waggler for many different situations, from still water condition to slow and fast flow streams, for the long range and the closer range. Great Varity of these floats, great varity of the special match rods. Mostly these rods have a go throuht action and are not so fast. The stick rods have a little stiffer action then the waggler rods. Match fishing is primarily for catch freswater fishes like roach, bream, chub, tench ... Typical baits are maggots, bread, nightcrawlers, maize.

Float fishing is very popular especially in uk, but also in Europa. Over the time many different methods and rod setups for nearly all thinkable freswater fishing situations was developed.

Often very light lines are used for delicate presentation. The Match guides used to keep the line away from blank and for an very light setup. So the Guides have small ID's and high frames. Mostly used are the single leg versions.

A suggestion for match guide spacing on float rods you can find at harrison:

BTW: Fishing for salmons with other then flyfishing-mehods is not really favoured.

Hope that helps a little

olaf

Thank you for the comments Olaf. But the salmon that are being mentioned are Chinook salmon and it's relative the steelhead (rainbow trout). I'm sure anywhere where there are Atlantic Salmon, using anything other than a married wing salmon fly would be considered sacrilegious.

Please listen to Mike. Your post is very informative and I'd hate to see it get deleted.

Thanks,

Randy
