You really need to read up on the various spiral methods. Some of the things you're asking here tell me you really aren't too sure of what you need to do, or even where to begin.
The number of guides needed will be determined by what is required to control the line and provide your rod with adequate stress distribution. I would hate to even take a guess without having it here where I could test it for myself, but I'd toss out a very rough estimate that on a 10 and half footer you'd be looking at no less than 7 guides. Perhaps 1 or 2 more. Is a size 6 ring too small? I have no idea, it depends on what sort of line, shock leader and/or connection knots you need to pass. I've built surf rods that couldn't get by with less than a size 16 ring, otherwise the shock leader knot would hang momemtarily and ruin the cast, or even tear out a guide ring. This is something you're going to have to try for yourself. Use the smallest rings that will easily pass your required line and connections. ............. Re: penn slammer 10.6 feet

Do a search on spiral wraps or just look down a few posts.
