I haven't done a rod since the 80s, but went into my old neighborhood store and the guy was selling out his stuff. We got to talking and he made me a deal on some thread. He has boxes (100s) of Gudebrod thread in 1200 yd spools which are the old wood ones. The color looks good and it got the blood flowing again to get creative. After I left, with a few rolls, I thought you might be helpful and save me some grief down the road. He also had a ton of 50 yd spools of A thru EE. Except for some dust on the faded boxes, it really doesn't appear to be bad.
After reading some of the stuff in here, and seeing what you people have done, which is beautiful, I got the damn bug again. Before I get a stupid attack, I think this should be addressed by someone with more time in the trade. Please let me know what you think, before I invest anymore.

If the thread has been kept out of direct sunlight and doesn't appear to have any mold or mildew on it, you'll be fine. You might strip off the top layer or two of thread, just to get rid of any discoloration that might have taken place on the layer next to any UV light.

Thank you for the info, sometimes a deal isn't as good as it seems. Your book is awesome, lot of things to think about but winters are long in Mi. Thanks again Rich
