Scrap Butts for Gaff Handles

Can anyone direct me to a source for rod blank butt sections that could be used for assembling into gaffs?

I'm looking for Butt sections up to 24" long, preferably with a butt diameter of 0.75" or larger. Graphite or Fiberglass... doesn't matter.

Maybe some defect, damaged, or scrap blanks that I can salvage the butt section from?

Thanks for any pointers.

Erik

Get in touch with Neal....He should be able to hook you up. I make mine out of spar varnished and cord wrapped .75"-1" dowels from Home Depot personally.

I do have some blank sections arriving next week I think. I will give you a call when I get them

Gaffs can be made from a variety of materials. If you're doing a heavy gaff where you want to embed the hook inside the blank, then you're pretty much stuck with what hollow material you can find. If you don't mine wrapping a big fish hook to the outside of a blank like you would a guide, then the world is your oyster! I've used solid glass blanks for this and it works pretty good (although they can be a little heavy). If you want a small gaff for light chores, find some used graphite golf club handles. You can even buy the parts to assymble the handle yourself. Wind a hook on the end where the club head is supposed to be and you will have the neatest little gaff you've ever seen.
