Anyone have any experience with pliobond. I'm trying to use it to make some crab flies and wondered if anyone had worked with it. Re: Pliobond

I use it on whipped loops and flyline to backing knots. The rubber base will yield to the line stretch without turning loose(like head cement will). I don't know about using on flies, though. It's real gummy, and browns alot. I'm a little confused. Are you thinking of using it to make like an epoxy fly,or as a glue? I don't think it is suitable for the application. Just my opinion. By the way, there is a great crab pattern on this site: [www.saltwaterflytying.com] Hope this helps. Alex Re: Pliobond

Dave, I like using pliobond for gluing cork rings, works and sands out nice and smooth. As Alex mentioned it also works for the backing knots, so the running line will go up through the guides nice and smooth. I did make a few crab flies for a guy in Florida, using pliobond. After the rubber legs are attached to the hook, I glued two felt cushion pads the kind you put on the bottom of furniture to protect the floor from scratching.Put the pliobond in-between after you shape the felt to the size and shape of the crab your tying, you can also brush some on top and bottom mixed with hobby shop paint to the color of the crabs in your area. Hope this was some help to you. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
